Early Life and High School Career
Joel Embiid was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on March 16, 1994. His mother played volleyball, and his father played handball; thus, he grew up in an athletic household. Embiid was passionate about soccer throughout his early years, but at the age of 15, he fell in love with basketball.
Due to his skill and hard work, Embiid was soon named to the Cameroon national squad. Where he participated in the 2011 FIBA Africa Under-16 Championship. Luc Mbah Moute, an NBA player and fellow Cameroonian. He saw Embiid’s remarkable performance and helped him get a scholarship at Montverde Academy in Florida.
College Career
During his one season of play at the University of Kansas. Embiid established himself as a formidable player in the paint. He was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. After averaging 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per contest.
Despite his achievements, Embiid’s back ailment, which necessitated surgery, ended his collegiate career. The Philadelphia 76ers picked him third overall after he filed to enter the 2014 NBA draft.
Professional Career
After a season of injuries and recovery during his rookie year, Embiid made his debut in 2016. His rapid rise to prominence was evidenced by his selection to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
